The murder

Lord Humphrey was found murdered in his room at the family castle two days ago. He was found by the housemaid Claire Winston at 11pm when she entered to do her routine cleaning (according to her). The crime scene was described as “disturbing” by the local sheriff. After a preliminary autopsy, the cause of death was ruled as strangulation in combination with massive blood loss due to severe wounds inflicted on the victim´s abdominal cavity most likely from a sharp-edged instrument, a procedure commonly known as “gutting” used by hunters to quickly remove the internal organs from slain prey. There are no eye witnesses to the crime, although a few members of the community, who wish to remain anonymous, have come forward with some valuable information.
- A figure was seen running away from the castle around 9pm the night of the murder. The witness described the figure as “very fast but with a strange limp”
- The Duchess of Sandwich reported hearing a disturbance in her son´s room some time around 8pm. The noises were described as some scraping, a few loud thuds, and some muffled cries. It did not seem particularly unusual to the Duchess as the brothers often got into arguments and ended up resorting to wrestling to settle them.
- Lord Humphrey was last seen around 6pm in the forest at the edge of the castle´s grounds with Claire Winston. The witness described them as acting “extremely friendly” towards one another, but ended the encounter with an argument and Claire stormed off enraged.

The Sandwich Sheriffs Department is following up on any leads at this point.
